Buying a stone slab is an exciting process. Finding your own slab, its long expanse of natural material played out on a wide surface that eclipses other formats, is an activity relished by connoisseurs, and seductive to the uninitiated. Each piece is utterly unique; a cross section of natural beauty - a freeze frame of geologic splendor caught in time, exposed in giant slices, and polished, honed, leathered, or otherwise finished into a fine piece of art.
Once you’ve found your slab, you may find that your use case does not require the entirety of it. What, then, to do with the rest? We’ve pulled together some of the best slab re-purposing ideas we’ve seen in the field – some inspiring suggestions to maximize your investment, and to help you gain the maximum enjoyment possible from the slabs that called your name.
If you've ever admired marble home decor in high end retail stores, this is
an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone.
Ask your fabricator to preserve the extra material after fabrication is complete and inquire if they can cut a set or two of luxe coasters. You'll never get a better chance to perfectly coordinate your slab with your dining accessories! Use these coasters on or near the slab to tastefully echo the look, or use them elsewhere to carry the aesthetic into other spaces in your home. You can also gift them to someone who would appreciate sophisticated decor.
If you have a bit more material to work with, consider re-purposing the remnants into serving trays – attach handles of your choice and quickly create a tasteful, luxe piece from material you love.

Other useful kitchen accessories that are relatively simple to fabricate are stone trivets and coasters, for hot plates and cold drinks. Ask your fabricator to craft some round trivets, and some angular, for interesting options. Remember to seal your natural stone coasters for many years of stain-free performance.

If you have a considerable amount of slab left over from your remodel, you're in luck!
Stone makes a highly desirable surface for the top of accent tables, both for the durability and the rich aesthetic created when contrasted with other materials like metal or wood. At most home furnishing stores, such accent tables usually range from $300 - $800. You've already invested, now, ensure that you get the most out of your purchase.
Refurbish an old wood side table by pre-drilling pilot holes into the top rail of the table base, then attach the top with 2-inch wood screws and wood glue driven from underneath.

If you'd prefer to have marble top side table with metal legs, this can be constructed using hairpin table legs and a wood base. For this assembly, all you need is a drill, a drill bit (to mark your depth to make sure you don't drill all the way through the table), and size 8 sheet metal screws. Assembly instructions are provided by the manufacturer.
