S

tone Slab shoppers are a unique breed. Most people don’t wake up in the morning dreaming of the gobsmacking natural stone slab they’re going to hunt down and make their own that day. Those that do, however, know of the many uses for stone slabs, one of mother nature’s more astounding and beautifully varied raw materials. And they know that each piece is unique, and that the right one won’t wait forever.
Skilled fabricators – those that take raw stone slabs and cut them into beautiful countertops, fireplaces, mantles, and tub surrounds, often have more tricks up their sleeves. The best have experience turning raw stone slabs into a wide variety of furniture and décor for the home.
Following are a few ideas for outstanding designed products most haven’t considered creating from stone slab, along with the basic layouts to assist fabricators in creating them.
Tables
No living room is complete without a coffee table, and these tables can be created entirely from stone slab. Stone, like our Grand Antique marble shown here, not only brings a distinctive richness to your living room, but is also long-lasting, especially in comparison to other surfaces. Below the surface, the legs of this table are also crafted from stone slab.
To create this table, the stone slab needs to be cut into a large hexagon piece for the countertop, and smaller rectangular pieces for the legs. Once cut, a fabricator can miter (invisibly join) the pieces to create the table.

Bench:
If you are looking to go more out-of-the-box with your stone slab, this super-modern sliced bench - comparable to the size of a love seat - would stand out in any room of your home. This model is made from Bianco Carrara marble slab, but nearly any stone could be used. With this design, contour lines are created to divide the bench into slices, which are then cut on a CNC or waterjet machine. The sections, separated by spacers, are threaded on metal rods running through the bench.

Console
Table:
This console was designed with our Breccia Imperiale marble slab and can be created by using a large cut for the table’s surface, as well as many smaller, evenly sized individual cuts for the table legs. Once cut, a fabricator can miter the individual leg cuts into the cone leg shape, before applying the countertop. This design was created to convey how flat pieces can be fabricated together to create beautiful, three-
Stone slab is a natural fit in stylish bedrooms. This design uses a combination of our Verde Alpi serpentine, Breccia Capraia marble, and Emerald Quartzite to create an unconventional piece with both style and function – there is space for a lamp, an alarm clock, and more. While this specific design uses three different types of stone, your design can use a single stone, or any other unique combination.
Table:
Stone slab can also be paired nicely with other materials to create aesthetically pleasing statement furniture. The stone featured in this complex flatland table design includes a Patagonia stone surface, a Cosmopolitan stone cube, and a Calacatta Verde pyramid, as well as brass and glass for further support. The mix-and-match style of this design is great for anyone looking to use different materials, or anyone looking to add a modern sense of style to their home.
Despite being one of the smaller designs on this list, these sconces of translucent Pink Onyx bring both color and light to your home. The bold pink in this design complements the green wall, adding a soothing balance of color to this room. To create each sconce, three square pieces of Pink Onyx are cut and fabricated together. Once installed, this gemstone will glow from the light within it, illuminating the texture of the stone and creating a special ambiance in the room.
Wall
Tiles:
The final design on our list features a particularly lavish use of stone slab. These wall tiles are 24x24 cuts of sleek Cosmopolitan Quartzite placed in a rotating pattern with profiles that vary from tile to tile. While Cosmopolitan is sure to stand out visually in any living room, this physically dynamic, eye-catching design can be replicated with other stone slabs as well.
T
hese designs represent a tiny fraction of what creative designers can make out of natural stone slabs. Truly outstanding design is always unique, and natural stone slabs are the perfect raw material for creating one of a kind, utterly unique elements – their internal variation, endless variety, and stunningly beautiful composition give designers endless opportunities to craft luxe objects and spaces that go beyond the ordinary.
dimensional objects, without the need for intense carving.
