n early 2019 Artistic Tile introduced Euclid, a tile line design born of a collaboration with NYC designer Alison Rose. Euclid is a masterpiece of shape, color and composition, creating a “tile language” that speaks to tile as a product of permanence, yet feels perfectly articulated for this particular moment. The technique used to create Zephyr combines several of the unique approaches pioneered in other Artistic Tile designs: the carving technique of Ambra and the inlay technique of Aviator. These techniques have never before been integrated into a single product, but they blend beautifully. Intermingling them allowed Alison to expand her aesthetic range, creating something entirely new and capturing an electric synergy.

THE ARTISTIC DIGEST
Alison conceived the second product in our collaboration, Zephyr, as a deconstruction of the lemniscate – the symbol for infinity. An 8” x 16” dimensional tile with a topographical ribbon of golden brass inlaid into an undulating ridge line of carved deep black or classic white Bianco Carrara marble, Zephyr is a showstopping design, with incredible detail and richness, sure to become the focal point in any project.

atural stone is an exciting canvas for the kind of art that Zephyr represents. Its inherent unpredictability and variation are part of its lasting beauty, a fact that Alison understood and embraced when embarking on this project. It’s this natural veining that excites me - and black, white and gold tones showcase the modernist dimension.”
Zephyr's carved and dimensional nature also help to fully realize the potential of natural stone as a canvas – the carved surface creates a unique sense of depth and detail, revealing veins and grain in three dimensions as opposed to the usual two, for an uncommonly rich surface. In this way, a relatively simple pattern with remarkably intricate details showcases the beauty and uniqueness of natural stone. No installation of Zephyr will be identical to another. Alison notes, "Zephyr will transform a space through its dimensional surface, sensual lines and coloration. Installed vertically or horizontally, it creates an enveloping experience."
